Right in the heart of Ceret, this light and airy second floor apartment has a delightful balcony which looks out over the jardins, the small vegetable plots which produce the delicious home grown vegetables you'll find sold by little old ladies from their front door step around the town! The building, typical of the large houses built in Ceret in the late 19th century, has been recently refurbished. It's close to the shops and the market on Saturdays and to the Musée d'art moderne, the brainchild of Picasso.
Ceret is known as the "Ville des Platanes" and its towering plane trees can be seen above the rooftops as you approach across the plain. They shade the main streets and squares and it is wonderful to sit in the pavement cafés of this delightful southern town or wander its medieval streets.
The Salinas mountains above the town divide France from Spain and provide good hill walking. You are only 30 km from the sea but if you want to swim locally there's a large pool in Ceret and lakes nearby, at St Jean, where you can fish too. All this and you haven't even begun to explore the valley of the Tech which from here climbs high up into the Pyrenees.
