SPRINGING UP LIKE MUSHROOMS

I just can't wait to get off the ferry onto the A26 and head south, put the foot down to the floor, we can make it in 10 hours easy, no-one takes any notice of speed limits over there anyway, and there's so much less traffic on those French Motorways, pity about the tolls though but you can't have everything, can you, a real doddle, why last year I made Barcelona in 13 hours door to door ......

WHOOOAH !

..... Don't want to shatter your dreams but things have changed.

Get stopped by the traffic police doing excessive speed and they'll take your license away on the spot... Even yours... yes yours.... Yes I AM TALKING TO YOU...

Oh but ....

No buts, immediate immobilisation. If Aunty Mabel can't take over, the car stays where it is and the nice policeman will even call you a taxi to take you to the nearest Railway station ....

Well I can see them coming so I'm alright..... I mean there aren't any of those bloody speed camera thingys like on the M25, no I'll be alright .....

The French are particularly fond of mushrooms and they've just discovered a new variety. Trouble is they leave a nasty taste in the mouth. They are springing up on roadsides overnight, as it were. In fact, this little rant is inspired by the fact that I had my photo taken last night too. (08/06/2005)

NOTE THE DATE.
UP TO THIS POINT THIS PAGE IS TOTALLY OUT OF DATE!
IT'S FAR WORSE NOW!

So here's an unwelcome update... The things are now everywhere, some of them even work in BOTH DIRECTIONS, there are ones that work over a set distance measuring a combi of time/speed and there's now cross-border licence point losing too.... Oh yes and technically if you have any device warning you about radars that's illegal too though have to say, the exact advice is unclear. (In March 16 these are legal because they only give a rough idea over a 5km stretch where there may be radars - Navirad, Avertinoo, Coyote, Eco & Logic, Inforad, Road Pilot, Takara, Telmap and Wikango) This advice will, I am sure, go out of date quickly so check before you venture out, or, of course, don't break the speed limit...

Arghhhhh. This is where I insert "You Have Been Warned ...."

To cap it all they used to publish an interactive map but that seems to have disappeared off the radar too. Ooops sorry.
