Villelongue dels Monts, just over a mile along the hillside to the west of Laroque, is to me the prettiest of the Albčres villages and perhaps its best kept secret. it forms part of the linear group of stunningly pretty Albčres villages where you will find most of our properties. The Albčres chain of mountains stretches back from the Mediterranean sea at Collioure, they're the last sigh of the Pyrenean chain before it plunges down to meet the sea.
One of the least known of these villages, it's charming and quiet. It has a selection of small traditional shops; in the old centre there is the friendly village bar/restaurant, the Café dels Monts, the paper shop and the mini supermarket with a good selection of fresh fish and meat, fruit and veg. In the new "Shopping centre" there's a new Bakery and the one of the best Traiteurs I've ever found. What's a traiteur? Well its the French version of a takeaway but forget kebabs, we're in gastro-France here and Claude and his wife do Suquets (Catalan version of Bouillabaisse) Paellas and every traditional local fish dish imaginable .... Keep it quiet from the purists but they do a mean Pizza too.. The tennis club and courts are easily accessible and all in all its a great little village for your holiday. The supermarket is only 10 minutes away down on the main road. A good range of restaurants are to be found in these Albčres villages including two of the very best in the region.
NEW for 2011. An excellent
serving good food in a relaxed and friendly ambiance has opened in the village. We've tested it and we very definitely approve.

Completely refurbished in 2008 in a Scando-Mediterranean style, this comfortable and well equipped villa with 10x5m pool immediately makes you feel relaxed and at home with it's palpably generous sense of space and light. It's set on two floors, the main living area being up on the first. There's lots of outside space too with a fabulous pool and sun lounging area. There is off street parking. Village facilities are within walking distance. There are good walks in the forest above, (all the way over into Spain if you like!), and the sea is only 15 km away, close enough to be convenient, far enough to be away from the crowds.

Villelongue boast a beautifully restored Romanesque chapel in a clearing a short walk above the village. Here, in summer, you can attend extraordinary choral concerts in extraordinary surroundings. Definitely not to be missed
