It is marvellous walking country, or you can hire a bicycle. Spend a day at an outdoor pursuits centre or trace the footsteps of the Cathars, followers of the Albigensian heresy, hounded from mountain stronghold to mountain stronghold until their final fall at Castle Quéribus in 1255. In contrast there are the bright lights of Perpignan to be enjoyed and three hours away, the even brighter lights of Barcelona.
Of course, you may just wish to relax with a glass of chilled Muscat in hand and watch the eagles soar over some of the most extraordinary countryside in Europe.
